Matthew's first Halloween!

Matt was a little doggy for his first Halloween. We didn't get to spend so much time trying to look for the coolest Halloween outfit for Matt since we spent most of our October days in Korea. But Matt got to dress up and go trick-or-treating with his cousins for a few minutes. It was fun!

Sean also dressed up as a vampire for work this morning. Matt kept on staring at Sean because he probably thought, 'who the heck is this dude?' It was fun to watch Matt trying to figure out who Sean was.

Scary! That was taken at Sean's work.

Matt was a little pumpkin for a few minutes. We were going to dress him up as that but thought that people would call him a little girl. It's happened a few times before. We sure don't want Matt to be called a little girl so we decided to change him into his doggy outfit.

Garrett as a retro dude... Seriously, it was the best costume ever.

Alex and Nathan... Aren't they just so adorable? We went trick-or-treating with the kids and Alex was too excited to get candy. He would run across people's lawn to get to the next door faster. He also took good care of Matt by getting his candy for him as well. It was so cute. He'd ask everyone if he could get an extra candy for his baby cousin Matt. He's a little sweetie pie. Well, Matt can't eat those candy that he got tonight. But it was just fun to take him around the neighborhood. What a fun American tradition (weird, of course, but definitely fun!).

Another shot of Garrett, this time with his mustache. Awesome!

How cute!

Happy Halloween, everyone!!

Any suggestions?

Matt now has 6 teeth.... And the problem is that he grinds them! Is that normal? Anyone have suggestions what I should do? What helps him not grind his teeth? I seriously hate it when he grinds his teeth. It sounds awful and I'm scared that it's going to hurt his beautiful teeth. If you have had same experiences with your babies and have any ideas what I need to do to prevent him from doing it, please let me know!

What a small world!

While visiting my uncle and aunt in Seoul, my cousin called and said that he wanted to see me and my family. I hadn't seen him in about 20 years (the last time I saw him was when I was 9 years old). I had heard that he was married in April so I wanted to meet his wife too. When they arrived at my aunt and uncle, I was surprised by how different my cousin looked. His wife looked good too. When my cousin and I were trying to catch up, my cousin's wife said, "Hmm, you're Yong-Sook, aren't you. I know Yong-Sook. I know her..." I was a little confused at first but I kept on thinking, "This girl looks familiar" but I couldn't really think where I knew her from. I grew up in Nonsan which is like 5 hours away from Seoul so I guess I was having a hard time making a connection. Then a light bulb went off in my head. I knew the girl. Her name was Da-Jin Park and I had hung out with her when I was in middle school. I remembered her name and we were all shocked by what a small world we live in. I would've never thought that she was going to be my cousin's wife! Da-Jin and I went to middle school and high school together. Isn't it crazy? What a small world....

Matt lately

During our visit to Korea, Matt mastered crawling! I was so excited about that. He still doesn't crawl much even though he knows how. He's a strong kid though. He still doesn't like food much. Things he likes the most besides my milk are rice, bread crumbs, and bananas. Other than that, he hates most food. He doesn't like to drink, either. We tried to give him all kinds of juices but haven't found any that he likes. Matt also doesn't like to put things in his mouth. He doesn't even like pacifiers. He's got 6 teeth now. He grinds his teeth. I hate when he does that. He loves taking pictures. Whenever we take pictures, he smiles and poses. It is really funny. My mom and dad in Korea think it's the funniest thing ever. Oh and he learned to say Umma and Appa (Korean words for mom and dad) while we were in Korea. It is funny though because he says Umma when he's cranky or he needs something and Appa when he's in a good mood. He also started saying Mama and Dadda. It's really cute. Matt hates loud laughter. Whenever someone laughs loud, he would start screaming. We thought he just hated loud sound but we don't think that's it because he slept through karaoke. He doesn't mind when people are loud, either. It's just when they laugh loudly. How weird is that? Matt's favorite color so far is red. He loves the sound "pick-a-boo". That's about it for now. Oh and he's about 8 months old now! He's growing so fast!

Things we loved about Korea!

1. No Tipping. In Korea, we don't tip. It is in fact rude to tip someone for their labor. We don't pay taxes either. Taxes are included in prices. There's no 99 cent crap, either, always even number, like 1,000 won or 1,200 won, not 990 won or 670 won. So we liked that. The food is so much cheaper there too. One day my mom and we had lunch together and we only paid 12 bucks. How nice is that?!

2. Bargaining. I bought a lot of makeup there and bargaining saved me a lot of money. When you go to Korea, try bargaining. You will save a few bucks.

3. Public transportation. The easiest way to move around in Korea is by using public transportation. They are so cheap too. We used buses, trains, subway, and taxis while we were in Korea. I really wish public transportation was popular in America.

4. All the food! I love Korean food. I could spend the rest of my life eating Korean food. I love American food but honestly, I could live without it. I think changing food is what got me gain a lot of weight. In Korea, I used to eat a lot of vegetables and soup. I really miss that.

5. Of course my family. My family is the reason why I want to go to Korea often. I really want to visit them as often as I can. This trip was too short! Hopefully, I will get to visit more often.

Things we missed about America

Although our trip to Korea was a blast, there were things that we missed about America. These were the things we missed the most.

1. Our bed! Okay, when Sean and I got married, we bought the most comfortable bed in the world. It was on sale so we got the best deal on it. It's soft and comfy. Many Koreans don't sleep on beds. They sleep on the floor. My mom used to have beds but got rid of all of them when she moved into her new apartment. So Sean and I slept on the floor the whole week we were there. I guess I had gotten so used to sleeping on bed my whole life... my back was killing me! Yesterday, I slept on our bed and my back feels so much better.

2. Shower curtain and giant big towels! I've lived in America for about 7 years now so I had forgotten that showers curtains and big towels aren't very common in Korea. A lot of Koreans have wet floors in bathrooms. The towels are small as hand towels and so thin. I needed two of those towels to dry myself each time I got out of shower. I also missed not having to push the shower button on thermostat to make the water hot. One day, I forgot to do that so took a cold shower on a rainy day. It wasn't so pleasant.

3. Carseat! Carseats aren't required in Korea so we carried Matt in our hands whenever we were driving. It sounds scary I know but everything was okay. But having to carry Matt all the time wasn't so easy. I think I have more muscles now.

4. Huggies diapers! My goodness, Korean diapers suck!! They didn't really fit Matt well. They weren't very soft either. I only took some diapers from America thinking that diapers in Korea would be all the same. But they weren't. Huggies in Korea were different too. Why? I don't know.

5. Bigger roads, better drivers. Okay, it might sound stereotypical but it's true. Asians are not good drivers. Well, they are good drivers. It's just that they drive more aggressively because of the narrow road situation. They don't like to yield. They are not very patient. Sean and I thought we were going to die on the road or something. I was so upset and embarrassed about drivers not stopping at crosswalks, not even for little kids. Instead, they would honk at pedestrians who tried to walk across crosswalks. How lame!

These were the things that we missed about our home in America. I guess these little things are the ones that we miss the most when we are away from home.

New Haircut

I finally had time to go to a salon and get a haircut last Saturday. Sean was kind enough to watch Matt while I was gone. Anyway, I am satisfied how it turned out. I love short hair!

General Authorities' Broadcast on Proposition 8

To watch clips from the broadcast, go to..

The articles from Church News...

At the request of the Protect Marriage Coalition, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is making arrangements for them to call friends, family and fellow citizens in California to urge support of the effort to defend traditional marriage. The coalition has asked members of the many participating churches and organizations to contribute in whatever way they can to the effort to pass Proposition 8, including by phoning.

“It is a combination of two things,” said Elder L. Whitney Clayton of the Church’s Presidencyof the Seventy. “We are looking at options to fulfill a request from the coalition to help with phone calls to encourage support of Proposition 8. We’re also responding to the many requests we have had from students and others who want to help. Making phone calls is something they can do.”
Elder Clayton said that no decision had yet been made by the coalition on whether to activate any phone volunteers outside of California.

Although many Church members other than Californians have expressed a desire to help, the out-of-state effort will stay focused on Californians for the time being. No calls have yet been made from outside of California other than a handful of calls to test the system.

In addition, in a satellite broadcast that took place tonight for Californian Church members, Elders M. Russell Ballard, Quentin L. Cook and L. Whitney Clayton addressed the Church’s doctrine of marriage and participation in the Protect Marriage Coalition.

Proposition 8, on which Californians will vote on 4 November, defines marriage in California as between a man and a woman.

Random

I think his eyes are getting bigger.

Don't you just love that smile?

Matt fell asleep in Sean's arms... It was so cute!

Just want to bite off his cheeks! Not really, I wouldn't do that... :)

We went to Red Robin one night and Matt was loving the crayon. Maybe he will be a painter... Hmm..

Hat Festival!

One day, I took pictures of Matt wearing different hats. Some of them looked goofy on him but most of them looked cute! Which one is the cutest?

Can't think of any good title for these photos...

Daddy and Matty...

Matt is so strong!

We were going for a little walk outside one afternoon. The weather was nice.

All of his toys on the floor. Yes, diapers are one of Matt's favorite toys... :)

Matt doesn't really like food but he smiled for the camera! Cheese!!
